The California Department of Aging administers nutrition services funded by the federal Older Americans Act and State general fund dollars through a network of 33 Area Agencies on Aging and their service providers.
The Senior Nutrition Program:
- Provides daily noon meals, social activities and information clearinghouse services in a congregate setting for senior citizens aged 60 and over.
- Cooks and coordinates the delivery of meals to eligible homebound seniors aged 60 and over.
- Acts as liaison, as needed, to direct seniors to other emergency services/providers.
Nutrition services for eligible seniors will not be denied for failure to make donations. Senior Nutrition is a California Department of Aging (CDA) program.
Services
Nutrition Sites
Lunchtime meals are available for anyone 60 years and older at several sites located throughout Kern County.
- 24-Hour prior reservations may be required.
- A donation is requested.
- Some sites provide free or low-cost transportation to and from the site.
Meals on Wheels
These home-delivered meals are available to persons 60 years or older who are homebound (by reason of illness, incapacitation, disability or isolation) and unable to leave their homes to participate in the congregate meals. View more information on Meals on Wheels.
